The Continental Divide
When we pulled in to the lot, there was one RV parked for the night that led us to believe we wouldn’t have any issues sleeping here. We went to bed early.
I woke up at about 1 AM and looked out the window. We were surrounded by about 10 custom vans – and another was just pulling in. All had blacked out windows or some sort of permanent window covering. Kinda creepy, but nonthreatening – all set up for over-nighting. We were the only ones with flowery curtains. By sunrise, the majority of them had already left.
One thing about Wal-Mart camping – it’s convenient to pick up a few things and get a fresh coffee early in the morning while the family sleeps.
To awaken quite alone in a strange town is one of the pleasantest sensations in the world.

I poked around under the dash and determined that the headlight problem was the likely the dimmer relay. I can put a jumper wire across it, or just order a new one later. As long as we don’t drive at night, we’re fine for now.
We crawled up the Rockies. Second and third gear were the best we could do on the interstate. Today’s lesson – turn on your hazard lights when going slow on I-70. We were passed by everybody. Even a garbage truck.
A guy in Idaho Springs was happy to see us and told me about his 60’s road trip to Vegas in a VW. It’s good to be back in the bus.
We turned off at Empire and started the real climbing. Berthould Pass is on the continental divide and just a few miles from our new winter home.
It is great seeing you back on the road. It is a win / win for us all. Thanks for the stories and the photos, wishing you safe travels and a Happy Thanksgiving!
What Steve said!
How are you liking those tyres ? Thinking of getting them aswell but yeah real experience ? Noise and grippy on snow ? Did it make the stearing any heavier at all ? Still as comfy ?
Gui – so far, so good. I can’t tell any major difference in handling or road noise. Feels good to me…
