If you’re interested in following along, bemused by the whole idea, or chagrined by our antics, please consider helping us out. We’re interested in making new friends, travel recommendations, general tips, donations, beer and pizza, a couch to sleep on, etc. Drop us a note and let us know what you think!
Buy Stuff!
We’re an Amazon.com affiliate. That means that if you click any of the Amazon links on our blog, we’ll get a commission if you buy anything from them within 24 hours of your click. No additional cost to you. We just get a little kickback for sending you their direction. You were probably going to buy stuff from them anyway, so it’s a win-win!
Beer and Pizza!
Check our route. If we’re somewhere in the vicinity or look like we’re headed your way, let us know if you want to split a pizza and swap stories at your (kid friendly) local favorite spot.
More?
Do you have an amazing vacation home up in the mountains and you need someone to go check on things, do some handyman work, etc. I’m your guy. Of course, we’d like to stay for a few days and appreciate why you picked that spot, but we can work something out! Do you know somebody who knows somebody? Give them a call!
We’re creative. Want to actually get something for your donation? Add a note when you submit your donation and we can provide the following…
For a meager $1 donation, we’ll take a photo just for you. You’ll be the only person to see it and we’ll delete any record of it. Do whatever you want with it. Your own personal BodesWell memory for only a buck!
For a measly $5, we’ll send you an actual postcard from somewhere along our trip. Written by hand… witness our actual penmanship! Impress your friends!
For only $10, we’ll send someone ELSE a postcard from somewhere along our trip… from YOU. Imagine something like this… “Sorry I couldn’t attend your step-nephew’s briss, but I was spending a long weekend in Patagonia…”
We won’t tell anyone.
Got any better ideas? send them in.
Do you work for a company interested in sponsoring an unconventional family driving The Americas? Let us know!
A journey is best measured in friends rather than miles.

Hey Jason,
A voice from the past! Just ran across the blog again after first seeing it in 2009, preparing for the 20-year reunion. Wish I had checked it a little sooner… I’ve been in Denver since 1998. Would have loved to met your family and heard some of your adventures. I’m working on moving back to the Houston area (job transfer) – I know, maybe I am crazy. Just needing a change, personally and professionally. And, as I’m not as adventurous as you, it’ll be good that I have family and friends there. 🙂
Well, y’all take care. Happy Trails!
Kim
Wonderful to meet you at the Coastal Ferry terminal last Tuesday. Must be my lucky day or was it fate. You had inspired me to go out to see the world and do more for the remaining years in my life (73 and rapidly approaching 80). We live in Rochester NY. Let us know if you are in the area. Come to spend a few days with us and visit the best kept secret of a wonderful American city.
I like to send you some of our recent trips for your review. May be you can suggest ways to better organize them.
Hi there. I have always been a lover of VW’s. Always wanted a van but don’t know if that will be in my future but for now I am curious to see if your dad ever sold his convertible VW bug? Please let me know. Thanks a bunch! Take care.
Please allow me to introduce myself. I am a casting director working with a Director who is looking for people who are living the Van Life in the USA.
The project is for Valero a refining company that has gas stations across the USA and wants to tell stories of people who are doing energetic endeavors like Van Life, Moto X, Rodeo, Music and Arts.
The shoot will take place in the middle of January.
Here is the Director and Production Co.

Hi Angela and Jason,
We at the international design publisher Gestalten are currently working on a new book and would like to invite you to participate.
OFF THE ROAD 2 (working title) will feature a variety of travellers, their vans, cars, and trucks and their trips. Please find a short summary of the book at the end of this email.
During our initial research we came across your project that we think would be particularly relevant for the book. If you would be interested in participating, please send us a quick reply and we will provide you with more detailed information on the material needed (mostly images and some background info).
We look forward to hearing from you!
All the best,
Sina and Cyra

Exposé OFF THE ROAD 2
(working title)
—
Many of us long to get away from it all in the great outdoors. Converted campers, vans, and other expedition-vehicles are increasingly popular means of escape that provide temporary homes amid isolated terrain, sandy dunes, and endless skies.
OFF THE ROAD 2 (working title) will capture the special mood of such trips by solo travelers, couples, or families who are seeking an alternative to a more standard vacation or want to live their lives differently—at least for a while. It will show how familiar models, such as VW buses, Land Rovers, Jeeps, and old trucks are being rediscovered. Automotive dreams turn into customized, homey vehicles.
Whether exploring the desert, showing children the world, or navigating polar landscapes, the journeys collected in OFF THE ROAD 2 (working title) are as unique as the people who take them. From radical escapists to fans of nature looking for their next trip, the book celebrates the joy of being on the go on four wheels.
For this book’s predecessor, please see OFF THE ROAD (http://shop.gestalten.com/off-the-road.html).

Merry Christmas ?
