Bay of FUNdy

A little more than a week ago we made a plan to meet up with fellow traveling families, Adv-o-DnA and Mali Mish. We’d met both last year on our travels to Alaska and were looking forward to catching up with them since we decided to head North instead of South this year.

We pulled into the campsite at Fundy National Park in the late afternoon and immediately found everyone at Dave and Ann’s Airstream. The kids immediately started playing, and we all caught up with each other. Happy hour continued into community campfire and smores.

The next day we set off to explore Fundy. We did a couple of short hikes and found a grassy picnic area for lunch. Bode was working on his Xplorer booklet (the Canadian equivalent of a Junior Ranger program) and I laid down and started reading. Pretty soon the Marlene and the kids pulled up and joined us in lounging.

The kids played, climbed trees and worked on their booklets. It is always so great to see these guys, it’s amazing how great the kids get along – and the parents aren’t bad either.

The next day we decided to explore the park on foot. We hiked over to the solar-heated salt water pool, where the guys had a cannonball contest. It wasn’t long before they decided it was still too cold to swim. Later, we hiked into town for lunch – lobster rolls! Poor Luka couldn’t quite make it, so he got a few rides.

Another night, another community campfire. We met the nicest people (mostly Canadians, after all) and got lots of good recommendations for New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

After a few days of good weather and great friends, we had to move on – it was high season and there were no more campsites 😉
