Going Up Baja

The first day back on the road started with a quick trip into La Paz. I waited until the night before we left to look over the bus and realized I had a cracked alternator stand leaking oil. Geraldo VW had plenty of them in stock and pinned up on the wall. Once we started driving, I remembered that the speedo doesn’t work, so I grabbed a new cable too. Road projects.

La Paz and most of southern Baja is still recovering from the hurricane, but at least everybody has electricity now.

I pulled over every few hours to keep an eye on the leak and it’s definitely getting messy back there. I’m planning on finding a nice beach to take a break and do the work. Until then, I’ve wrapped a rag around the stand to try to keep the oil from blowing all over the place.

It was a big driving day for us – all the way to Bahía Concepción. Here, you can just look down from the road until you see a beach you like. Pull over and you’re home.

We picked Playa El Requesón.

It’s interesting to see the flora, after gaining a nice green glow from the hurricane rain, returning to the normal brownish tint. Maybe an analogy as you return to your normal road tripping ways? Vaya con Dios.
