who needs ice?
We split up the gang for the ride to Glacier Perito Moreno. The girls took Fern, the boys in Red Beard. It was a beautiful drive, and it was so much fun to hang with some girls.
This glacier was something I’d been looking forward to seeing since the beginning of the trip, and it did not disappoint. The glacier face shoots up 240 feet above the water (another 300 or so below it), and it’s 5 miles across. It breaks up frequently, so about every 10 minutes or so we would here a thunderous crack. If we were quick enough we’d get to see ice chunks as big as houses crash into the water below.
The entire glacier is absolutely huge and the ice field is the world’s third largest reserve of fresh water. And, it is still growing – one of a handful on the Earth that are.
We spent the entire day on the boardwalk watching the glacier. We celebrated the large crashes. We’d been told it was customary to have a shot of bourbon with the glacier ice but apparently not from this glacier. Perhaps after too much celebrating, Simon decided we needed ice for our drinks (see little black figure in photo 15)
Somehow, the group had left us, and I felt responsible for him, so I stayed to laugh at him and took photos in case he came up missing. But, he was successful, and we drank our iced whiskey. Then he led me back to the buses that was definitely not the tourist path. I vowed to never follow him again.
Beautiful! Photo 4 cracks me up! Does it fall under the “you might be a Redneck if…” category?
holly ice! you should make a photobook with your adventures, and sell it
Awesome photos as usual!
and qiite the fashion statement, by your buddy there too, I might add…I’ll presume, after the bourbon shots?
Happy travels.

Dina: Photo 4 reminds me of a joke: What are a redneck’s last words?
–“Watch this!”
Wow.
Happy to learn Glacier Perito Moreno is doing the same thing it was 16 years ago. I can still hear. Thanks.
