Cracks and Craters
We spent another morning watching the cloud inversions at the bottom of the Hole in the Ground before taking off for… Crack in the Ground. They’re pretty creative with names around here. We also made a brief stop to check out Fort Rock. A rock that kinda looks like a fort.
A peculiar guy stopped by the bus at Crack in the Ground to admire our cast iron pot and told us about a free camp spot at Duncan Reservoir. Definitely a quiet spot to rest for the night.
From there, we meandered towards Crater Lake taking the back roads. My plan was to do the entire drive on dirt. Thanks to all the Forest Service roads, we were 90% successful.
We’ve been here before, but that was before Bode started collecting Junior Ranger badges. We give him road-school “credit” for earning badges. It’s actually a very well-designed program with lots of great information. Like, millipede farts smell like cherries. Bet you didn’t learn that in school.
