The Fremont Experience
We went for a little walk around downtown at night so Bode could get a better sense of what this city is about. It’s one of those places that continuously appears in movies and now video games, so he thinks he has an idea of what it’s like. It’s supposed to be AMAZING. Of course, being here is something completely different. Up close, you’re more aware of the thin veil of sadness and desperation that permeates every forced smile.
Bode saddled up to some sort of a street daiquiri/margarita bar and asked if they had anything non-alcoholic. “Oh honey, you’re so sweet!”
That was a ‘no.’
Bode: Dad, what’s a Gentleman’s Club?
Me: Err… Umm… Well, it’s a like a bar, but there are girls who get paid to… uh…
Bode: Oh, so it’s just a strip joint!
I forgot who I was talking to.
Bode thought it was all very cool. Lot’s of blinking lights, action and sound. People like that stuff.
Not suprised about his answer, and think its damn great! Well done parents 🙂
My kid is too young still (1year) but will be explained and tought about “life” as real and honest as possible.
Het Jason – This post jostled my memory. Don’t forget our great late night idea, you know the ten years from now Vegas plan!

A wise answer. We flew to Vegas in March for our Grand Canyon / Zion / Arches family trip and did exactly what you did for one night, just to see.
We appreciated that the trading card distributors did not hand them out to our 14 year old son.
Our kids’ question concerned the rolling billboard trucks and the answer was “Well, if you’re a guy who really wants a date you can call those girls and get a date. But that’s not the way you should get a date” which seemed to suffice.
