Happy Father’s Day

I’m not sure how to properly say ‘happy Father’s Day’ to Jason this year. Birthdays and Father’s Days and the like were a much bigger deal when we lived in house, had disposable income and a chance to shop without the other around. Actually, come to think of it, they weren’t ever really that big of a deal to us.

Anyway, Jason’s had a tough week. I’ve managed to destroy both our external hard drive and my computer also completely crashed. Both were accidents, but ones that involved Jason spending hours and hours on unintended IT support.

There was good news for the computer, which he eventually reformatted. Luckily these little netbooks have 2 drives and we were able to recover about 5 movies. Other than that, all was lost.

News for the hard drive wasn’t so bright. When someone says they lost everything, well you know. We nearly lost everything.

What I mean is, we lost everything on the hard drive, which included all documents which would be filed away by someone with a filing cabinet, twenty-mumble years worth of music, and hundreds of movies. … basically all our entertainment. And, all of those trip photos… well, at least we posted the good ones.

Luckily, back in January we backed up everthing when we were in Texas and left a copy there. And just as lucky, Jason still had our photos beginning in exactly January on his laptop. We still have a few kid movies, the 5 other movies on my computer and some of the music that was already on our MP3 player.  In some ways, this give a fresh start. Any suggestions on new movies or music?

Anyway, my point is that Jason was an absolute hero dealing with this. Although I’m sure he wanted to ring my neck, he never said a thing. He just fixed it.

This isn’t really a ‘Father’s Day’ story, but just a quick glimpse on why we appreciate good ole’ dad.

Happy Fathers Day from me too (though I’m out of synch: here in Australia fathers Day is the first Sunday in September – do you want to celebrate that one too?).

Bummer with the harddisk – that was our greatest fear all along the way. Luckily our WD Book is still going, and my laptop’s hd crashed once we home for few months – right after I had bought a new one and finished copying most things over (not all, but what’s lost now doesn’t really matter that much).

Things have to get better from now!
