The Suit

I have exactly one suit. Probably, the only one I’ll ever own.

It mostly just hangs in closets. Currently, in an upstairs bedroom at Angela’s mom’s house.

I believe we’ve successfully dated it to 1998. I must have bought it for a job interview, but I don’t remember wearing it to one.

It’s not particularly stylish and not particularly comfortable. It’s sort of an olive color and the fabric isn’t very inviting to touch. I’m sure I got a good deal on it.

There’s one shirt, one tie, one belt, and one pair of shoes to go with it. They all reside in that closet full time.

There is a small hole on the right shoulder on the jacket. I really don’t feel compelled to have it fixed. If anyone ever mentions it, I’ll just act surprised.

Any time I’ve worn it, people tell me how nice I look. But, I think it’s just such an uncommon sight that they’re compelled to comment. I don’t feel good in it. Besides, it’s rare that I would have reason to wear it.

Monday, I wore it.

I have a suit like that, and I rarely wear it for fun occasions. I hope your occasion was not too difficult to get through and you’re able to get back to Red Beard soon.

I don’t know what to say, but I have to say something. Like (I think) all of your readers, I feel like you guys are friends of mine even though we’ve never met, and I wish you only the best. Here’s hoping you get to put that suit back in the closet and keep it there for a long time.

It’s not what you wore on the outside but what you felt on the inside that counts. Missing you guys.
