Back in Ollantaytambo

This town has charm. Real actual charm. Plenty of tourists whiz through here on their way between Cusco and Machu Picchu, but stopping for a while is a good idea.

The Spaniards weren’t able to sack Ollanta – they were repelled all the way back to Cusco. As a result, this is an intact Incan village. People still live in homes with perfectly carved Incan stone walls. The water ducts through town that run past every home are still there, and you will always hear the sound of running water nearby. It’s nice.

To boot, the people are very friendly. Even in the main square, where the buses rumble past and waiting tourists mill about, the locals are genuinely nice. Walk a block or two towards the valley and you are in another world.
