The Trestle
“The Trestle” is up on Rollins Pass at 11,676 ft (3,559 m). One hundred and eighteen or so years ago, it was part of the highest ‘non-adhesion’ railroad line in the U.S. You can reach it in the winter by snowmobile or snowshoe. In the summer, you can mountain bike up here and then down the other side all the way to Boulder if you wanted.
In 1928, the Moffat Tunnel opened. It’s a 6 mile tunnel that burrows through the Continental Divide and opens up right at the base of Winter Park and is still in (heavy) use today. That was the end of the trestle.
So how did you get up there ? Bode probably only on snowmobile ?
snowmobile!
